Chattanooga Area Food Bank receives $1M donation

The Chattanooga Area Food Bank has received their largest donation ever.

A whopping one million dollars was donated by the Frank P. Pierce Foundation to fight hunger in North West Georgia. This will go largely towards the non-profit’s current efforts to expand their Dalton food bank. Melanie Hammontree is with the Northwest Georgia Area Food Bank. She said the expansion project is costing about $3.4 million.

“The total project at this point for the Northwest Georgia expansion is 3.4 million dollars. So, as part of that we made an ask to this foundation to support this Northwest Georgia project and they came back to us and said they would like to support Northwest Georgia. They actually did not restrict it to this project,” Hammontree said.

According to Feeding America, one in six adults in Northwest Georgia are facing hunger in the Northwest Georgia Food Bank’s service area.
