Chattanooga Convention Center hosts Scenic Stitches Fiber Festival

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The second annual Scenic Stitches Fiber Festival is taking place this weekend at the Chattanooga Convention Center, running February 28 through March 1.

Dozens of vendors are showcasing yarn, fiber tools, and handmade crafts, while classrooms and demonstration areas are open for workshops and interactive stations.

Bunny Harper, a vendor, said, “For me, having a fiber art, or you know, something to do with my hands and my mind, keeps me from killing people.”

Festival founder Courtney Cox said, “I’m excited to be here. We had a line that went almost to the entrance of the convention center. I’m so excited. I love seeing what everybody’s made too. It’s one of my favorite parts of the festival: getting to see all the handmade stuff.”

Some vendors brought bright and unique creations to the event. Meredith Muncy said, “All of it, not all of it, but almost all of it, is dyed with fluorescence so we achieve a neon color, and under a black light, it will glow.”

Bunny Harper also explained her shop theme: “I needed a theme for my shop because I started buying so much yarn that my husband said, ‘We’re gonna get divorced if you turn our house into a yarn storage unit.’ I said, ‘Oh, I need a shop. OK, I need a theme: bunnies. OK, Jackalope,’ because I’m all about shenanigans.”

Jordan English said, “I think that, you know, when you’re looking to find community, like where do you go? Right? So if you’re into knitting and crocheting and stuff, and you think, ‘Wow, I’m on my own,’ like no, no… this is where your communities are meeting. You know they’re coming here. There are places to sit and do this. You can meet other people and do what you do.”

With one more day of workshops, demonstrations, and vendor booths ahead, the Scenic Stitches Fiber Festival continues tomorrow, giving attendees another chance to explore creativity, color, and community throughout the convention center.
