Chattanooga faith leaders gather for unity forum at Bessie Smith Cultural Center

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)  People from across the Chattanooga area came together today at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center for a forum focused on faith, dialogue, and unity within the community.

Organizers say the event brought together individuals from different religious backgrounds, beliefs, and perspectives for open conversation aimed at strengthening relationships across the region. The goal of the gathering was to create a space where attendees could listen, learn, and engage with one another in meaningful dialogue.

Panelist Elder Steven Bodhaine said the forum highlighted the diversity present in the community and the importance of understanding different perspectives.

“It’s a remarkable community… people from all over the world bringing with them different faith traditions, different spiritual perspectives. This forum is designed to bring people together to listen carefully to one another to talk about the role of faith, religion, and spirituality.”

Panel discussions throughout the event encouraged attendees to engage with differing viewpoints and participate in conversations centered on shared values and respect.

A reporter stand-up during the event emphasized the purpose of the gathering, noting that people from across Chattanooga and surrounding communities came together with a common goal of unity and strengthening community ties.

Rev. Micah Fries, Director of the Multi-Faith Neighbors Network, said the panel represented a wide range of religious and ideological perspectives from Chattanooga and nearby communities.

“We can have strong disagreement with one another, but still affirm the dignity, worth, and value of one another.”

Organizers say they hope the conversations that began at the forum continue beyond the event and lead to stronger collaboration and understanding across Chattanooga moving forward.
