Chattanooga Firefighters respond to two kitchen fires

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF)- Chattanooga firefighters responded to two kitchen fires within the past 24 hours.

The first one occurred Saturday morning at 3116 15th Avenue.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to just the kitchen area. The lone occupant got out of the house safely and the estimated dollar loss is $15,000.

The cause of the fire was ruled accidental from food being left unattended on the stove.



Chattanooga, TN (WDEF)- Chattanooga firefighters responded to a second fire shortly after 3:00 am Sunday morning.

The fire occured at 527 Sequoia Drive and was caused by two boys, ages 13 and 14. The boys were home alone cooking and the fire spread to more rooms than the kitchen.

The boys got out of the apartment and alerted the family living on the other side of the apartment. One side of the duplex had substantial fire damage and the other side has smoke damage.

The estimated dollar loss is $50,000. Volunteers with the American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee were requested to respond to the scene to provide assistance to the two families.
