Chattanooga Goes Global as Spain’s National Soccer Team Chooses City as Base Camp
Chattanooga is stepping onto the world stage.
The city has been selected as the official base camp for Spain’s national soccer team, putting Chattanooga in the international spotlight as one of the world’s top teams prepares for one of the biggest sporting events on the planet.
City leaders say the announcement is more than just a win for soccer fans—it’s a major economic and cultural boost for the community.
“We look forward to welcoming the world stage here as an economic boost to our community,” said Dennis Clark, Chattanooga City Council District 5. “And we’re all going to learn a little Spanish.”
Spain’s squad will train at Baylor School’s state-of-the-art soccer complex, giving the team access to world-class facilities as they prepare for international competition. Local officials say the decision reinforces Chattanooga’s growing reputation as a serious soccer destination.
“We were known that way, but I think the world is about to see Chattanooga is a great soccer hub,” said Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp. “I’m especially excited for kids—this summer they’ll get to see the very, very best right here in their own community.”
Beyond the field, the impact is expected to be felt across the city. Players, coaching staff, families, and international media will stay at multiple Vision Hospitality Group properties, bringing global attention—and visitors—to Chattanooga.
Susan Harris with the Chattanooga Tourism Company says the opportunity is unmatched.
“To have the number one team in the world choose Chattanooga for their base camp is amazing,” Harris said. “These are top-tier athletes, along with their fans, families, and international media. It’s a huge opportunity to showcase everything Chattanooga has to offer.”
