Chattanooga homeless man accused of attempted rape inside homeless camp
CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee (WDEF) – A Chattanooga homeless man has been accused of attempting to rape a homeless woman at a homeless camp.
George Davis, 50, is facing two counts of aggravated assault and one count of attempted rape.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by News 12, Chattanooga police were dispatched to a homeless camp in the 1300 block of East Main Street to investigate an allegation of sexual assault.
A homeless woman told police she recently befriended Davis after meeting him at the homeless shelter. She told officers they were drinking at the homeless camp when he became violent.
The woman told officers he began slapping and hitting her in the face and told her he would rape her. She said he drug her into his tent and attempted to pull her pants down. According to the woman, Davis heard someone coming so he grabbed her by the arm and neck and the two walked out of the camp.
The woman told police Davis let her go but also threatened to kill her if she spoke to police.
According to the affidavit, a short after Davis let the woman go; he spotted her sitting in a car in the 800 block of McCallie Avenue. Davis reportedly ran up to the car, pulled her out and began hitting and pushing her to the ground.
Two witnesses intervened and Davis reportedly fled the scene.
Police located Davis a short distance away from the alleged crime scene and took him into custody.
His bond has been set at $150,000.
