Chattanooga Homicides

Shootings may be down in Chattanooga over last year.
But our records show the number of homicides made a dramatic jump this year.
In fact, 2014 had a more than 30 percent increase in homicides compared to the year before.
WDEF News 12 records show Chattanooga has had 27 homicides in 2014, compared to 17 homicides in 2013.
Despite those numbers, there is some good news to report.
The Chattanooga police department reports the number of shootings is down 10 percent this year.
As of December 30th, Chattanooga has had 111 shootings incidents, compared to 123 shootings incidents all of last year.
Police also expect there to be 300 fewer crimes this year than the year before.
The reduction in crime includes a 12% decrease in robberies and a close to 4% decrease in property crimes.
