Chattanooga man accused of beating the family dog with a crowbar
CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee (WDEF) — A Chattanooga mom calls police on her son after he allegedly beats the family dog with a crowbar then threatens to harm his mother.
Alexander Garcia, 29, of Chattanooga is facing one count of aggravated assault and one count of cruelty to animals.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by News 12, the crimes were committed Tuesday morning in the 3200 block of Crescent Circle.
Garcia’s mother told police she called 911 after her son picked up a crowbar and began beating the family dog. she said when she tried to stop him, he threaten to hit her with it.
She also said she feared for her life and wanted to press charges against him.
According to the arrest affidavit, Garcia is not welcomed back at his mother’s home.
The arresting officer noted in his report that Garcia was not cooperative while being questioned about the incident.
There is no word on the condition of the family dog that was allegedly beaten with a crowbar.
According to the Hamilton County jail, Garcia is being held without bond.
His arraignment on the two charges is scheduled for September 30.
Hamilton County court records show that in 2013 and 2015, Garcia had been arrested for domestic assault but the charges were eventually dropped.
In 2014, he was arrested and charged with animal cruelty. That case was bound over to criminal court for jury trial but Garcia was acquitted of the charge.
