Chattanooga man accused of using a car as an assault weapon

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee (WDEF) – A man is accused of using his girlfriend’s car as an assault weapon after she rejects his gift.

Ricky Carter, 53, of Chattanooga was charged with:

  • Two counts of aggravated assault
  • Two counts of reckless endangerment
  • Driving on a revoked license

On Thursday, police were called to a disorder near the Walmart off of Greenway Drive. When they arrived, one of the alleged victim’s told officers that Carter was her boyfriend and that he purposely crashed her car with her and another woman inside.

According to the Carter’s girlfriend, the incident started when Carter tried to give her flowers that she didn’t want. She told police that rejection of the flowers made Carter angry. He reportedly told her, “If you don’t care about the flowers, I don’t care about your car.”

She said after he made that statement, he accelerated her car through the parking lot and intentionally crashed the vehicle into a pole. According to police, the impact was hard enough to not only cause major damage to the vehicle but also cause the air bags to deploy.

Both women told police they feared for their lives.

After wrecking the vehicle, Carter reportedly fled the scene on foot. He was located and arrested in the 5600 block Brainerd Road.

His bond was at $23,000.
