Chattanooga man attacked with knife; suspect arrested
CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee (WDEF) – A Chattanooga man is in jail after being accused of attacking a man with knife over beer.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by News 12, it happened Sunday morning near the intersection of Pine Street and MLK Blvd.
The victim told police he was walking along Pine Street with a beer in his hand when a knife wielding man jumped out of some bushes and demanded the victim give him his beer.
According to the victim, the suspect who was later identified by police as Christopher Shipley, 56, grabbed the victim and attempted to cut his throat with the knife. The victim told police he managed to block Shiply from cutting him but that Shiply took his wallet and ran away.
According to the affidavit, the victim briefly chased after Shipley but eventually stopped. He went to the City Cafe where he saw a Chattanooga police officer and explained what happened.
The victim was shown a photo lineup based on the description he gave police. He picked out Shipley as the person who attacked and robbed him.
According to police, the victim sustained a laceration to his finger that needed stitches.
Shipley was booked into the Hamilton County Jail on a $70,000 bond for a charge of aggravated robbery.
His next court appearance is July 7.
