Chattanooga man charged with DUI that injured three people
CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee (WDEF) – The Tennessee Highway Patrol has arrested a man suspected of injuring three people while driving under the influence of alcohol.
Elder Lopez, 22, of Chattanooga was arrested early Sunday morning after authorities say he caused a crash that injured three people before fleeing the scene.
According to a THP complaint affidavit obtained by News 12, Lopez was driving along the 2200 block of Hickory Valley Road at a high rate of speed when he failed to stop at a stop sign and crashed into another vehicle. The other vehicle had three people inside who were all injured and had to be transported to the hospital.
The affidavit goes on to say that after Lopez fled the scene, he drove on the wrong side of the road into oncoming traffic where according to authorities, Lopez further endangered the lives of multiple people.
Once a THP officer caught up to Lopez on the road and pulled him over, Lopez reportedly showed obvious visible signs of being under the influence.
Lopez was immediately arrested and and charged with:
- Leaving the scene of an crash with injuries
- Reckless endangerment.
His Bond was set at $20,000 and more charges are pending.
