Chattanooga man shot in the head; suspect arrested
Chattanooga police have arrested Osei Sorrell, 31, of Chattanooga in connection to an Wednesday night shooting in the 500 block of East 3rd Street.
According to police, Sorrell shot Kadarius Johnson in the back of the head.
Johnson told police Sorrell had been following him in a white SUV with large dark rims around East 3rd Street just before Sorrell opened fire on him.
A city wide "Be on the Lookout" or BOLO was issued for Sorrell and the SUV in question.
Shortly after the BOLO was issued, Chattanooga police stopped a SUV matching a description of the vehicle used during the shooting. Sorrell was the driver who reportedly also matched the description of the shooter. Sorrell told officers he was driving from a female’s house. According to police, Sorrell gave permission for officers to search his SUV. During their search, police found a loaded .22 WHR semi automatic handgun and two ammunition magazines under the driver’s seat.
Investigators also found a spent .22 caliber shell casing in the 500 block of East 3rd Street where the shooting happened. Crime scene investigators determined the shell casing matched the weapon found in Sorrell’s SUV.
Two witnesses came forward and gave credible information that led police to believe they had the right suspect.
Sorrell was charged with attempted first degree murder, aggravated assault and reckless driving.
His bond was set at $225,000 and his ext court date is September 29.
Sorrell is no stranger to trouble. Hamilton County court records show he has been convicted twice for drug possession.
