UPDATE: Family of man found in Marion Co thanks community

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Chad Cook was stuck in the woods without food, without water, and without any signs of civilization for three days, but today he was found.

Cook’s grandmother, Elizabeth Perrilloux said that the family was losing hope as time went on.

Although a bit dehydrated, Chad Cook was found in favorable conditions and just a quarter mile hike from the command post down stream.

“We know he is a survivalist, he’s really good in the woods he loves bonfires, you know sitting around the campfire, you know it’s one of his fond things. We thought that would be just like Chad to leave clues.” said Elizabeth Perrilloux.

Monday, emergency and rescue teams found Cook’s bike. Tuesday, they noticed Cook was leaving clues behind to find him, whether it be a piece of his helmet or signs like sticks pointing out in one direction.

When they finally found Cook, it was an easy extraction to get him home to safety.

Cook’s uncle, William Watkins said “They made a litter out of two branches and a sheet and they carried him for about a quarter mile and then another medic showed up with a liter and we put him on litter and got him out.”

Cook’s grandmother continued to state, “And I know on behalf of his mother, she’s not here, she’s really wants to thank everyone. The search, you know the people’s time, energy to do this, nobody get’s paid for this it was amazing, so thank you, big thank you.”

“I’m proud , I know my family is happy that these three communities came together for somebody they didn’t even know” added Cook’s uncle.

Now Chad Cook is expected to make a full recovery and his family is happy he’s alive.
