Chattanooga PD invites citizens to Community Police Academy
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Chattanooga Police Department is inviting citizens to attend the Community Police Academy.
Participants will get a behind-the-scenes look at how the department operates and train for the important work officers do each and every day.
“They also have a chance to talk to officers and see demonstrations of K9 training methods, they get a chance to experience our ‘Don’t shoot’ simulator, our driving simulator, and more,” said Chattanooga Community Outreach Police Officer, Sgt. Ernest Craw.
The Community Police Academy has been around since 1990’s and there are two sessions per year during the spring and fall.
Chattanooga PD is encouraging those to come out to not only learn more about the everyday life of a police officer, but to create relationships with the community.
“When the community has a good working relationship with the police department, it goes hand-in-hand when it comes to taking down crime in the community and making them safer,” said Sgt. Craw.
The Community Police Academy is a completely free 9-week program from March 21 to May 16 every Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the CPD Police Service Center on 3410 Amnicola Highway.
Registration ends on March 11, those who are interested in participating in the 2024 Spring Community Police Academy can download and complete the application on CPD’s website.
Once done, email it to cpdcommunityoutreach@chattanooga.gov or drop it off at the Police Services Center.
