Chattanooga Police Arrest Known Gang Members
Chattanooga Police made five arrests and seized multiple weapons Tuesday night.
There have been 5 shootings in Chattanooga this week alone.
Chattanooga Police Chief Fred Fletcher said he is confident these arrests prevented a shooting from happening.
“Officers responded to a shots fired in the south part of town and a thorough field investigation, located a firearm and an arrest was made in that case.”
It happened on West 38th Street.
Officers arrested Thomas Robbins for evading arrest and possessing a firearm with the intent to go armed.
In another incident two people were arrested after authorities received a call that shots were fired.
“Officers worked in collaboration with community members and our partners in our aggressive law enforcement partnership. We located people hiding in a vacant apartment where they were trespassing and they found weapons and arrested multiple people for being in possession weapons.”
Marvin Cartwright and Greg Trice were arrested and charged with possession of a firearm while in commission of felony, marijuana for resale, crack for resale, and cocaine.
CPD said they made another arrest of two juveniles during a routine traffic stop.
“Officers were patrolling in areas that we had identified as being at high risk for violence. Made a traffic stop and found a pistol with an extended magazine…a 30 round magazine, and made an arrest on that one.”
Chief Fletcher said he doesn’t believe any of the suspects were involved with each other.
“Often time the violence is driven simply by a perceived disrespect to an individual… or a particular individual in a gang and this case guns and drugs and guns were found.”
Chief Fletcher said he is proud of the Chattanooga Officers for the work they do and the crimes they have prevented.
“People tried to kill your police officers with firearms four times in 2014. They took 726 guns off the streets of Chattanooga last year. 726 times your police officers stood between firearms in this community.”
Greg Trice is not a validated gang member. All 4 others are validated gang members.
