UPDATE: CPD Arrests Suspect in Hamilton Inn Shooting

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Mailik Phillips was taken into custody by CPD’s Fugitive Unit with assistance from the United States Marshals Service and the Walker County Sheriff’s Office on July 12, 2017.

The 20-year-old male is charged with Criminal Homicide and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony.

Phillips will be booked into the Hamilton County Jail once extradited from Georgia.

The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released when available.


CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Chattanooga police are investigating the city’s latest homicide after one person was found dead this afternoon at the Hamilton inn on Rossville Blvd.

Police said the call came in at around 3:00p.

When officers arrived on scene they found one person dead from a gun shot wound inside a room on the 3rd floor of the hotel.

Detectives are still working to figure out what led to the shooting.

“The homicide did occur inside the room inside one of the rooms and that is where the investigation has kind of got to go from ounce we kind of get everything else kind of figured out then we kind of got to go from there,” Chattanooga Police Lt. Daniel Jones said.

Police said the victim is a validated gang member.

The victim is identified as 27-year-old Damico Lawrence.
