Chattanooga residents encourage safe transportation for children
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) – A press conference was held in Chattanooga today to tackle the recent issues on bus safety in Hamilton County.
Nearly a year after the tragic Woodmore Elementary bus crash that killed six children, community activists came together in the form of a coalition called Stand Up for School Bus Safety.
School bus drivers, parents, school administrators, and community leaders were just a few that gathered in attendance for the launch of the newly-formed organization.
Speakers at the event stressed that everyone in the Chattanooga community plays an important role in school bus safety.
President of the Woodmore Neighborhood Association Ezra Harris stated, “The Stand Up For School Bus Campaign is very much needed. Everyone should get involved in this effort, and I’m happy to see someone picking up the ball on this issue.”
The coalition expects to begin educating and advocating tips in Hamilton County with the distribution of school bus safety posters placed throughout the community.
