Chattanoogans brainstorm ideas for Miller Park District redesign

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – Dozens of Chattanoogans came together with the same idea on their mind, improving their city.

Chattanooga’s oldest downtown park and the historic site of the old City Market is getting an update, and the designers want to know what you want.

Last month, the city hired two New Orleans-based firms to lead the design process.

The city and designers immediately began getting ideas from the people who know what the area needs the most, park goers.

Everyone has heard the phrase that no idea is a bad idea, and that goes 100 percent for this as well. The design firm is looking for ideas no matter how crazy.

"We want to hear some of the crazy ideas from the city of Chattanooga and sort of understand what the community wants," said design team member Wes Michaels.

There have been a lot of suggestions and community involvement. So far, one of the major themes was the need to give the park a little lift. "Bringing the park, Miller Park, especially back up to street level," said Michaels.

The hope is to have the entire project completed by December of 2016.
