Chattanooga’s Greenspaces hosts Green Prix this weekend

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- On your Mark, Get Set, Go! Greenspaces is gearing up for a weekend of fun as they kick off their annual Green Prix Race.

“What started in 2017 as an initiative is now what you see behind me. We wanted to get our students more educated and more involved with STEM education. And so that is where the green prix evolved,” said Wayne Brown, Director of Development at Greenspaces.

The Green Prix race is hosted annually to get students involved by building their own electric vehicles.

Brown explains why it’s important to provide learning skills to the students.

“They can actually see what they are doing. It is one thing to talk about theory, but it is another thing to put your hands on that project and actually get inside the car, drive it, maintain it, and It is a competition, because there are winners. So that is another part of the races we are really excited about,’ said Brown.

Throughout the weekend more than 5-hundred students across Hamilton County will compete in the green prix race.

Brown says it takes Collaborative  efforts to keep the program growing.

“We are so grateful for Volkswagen for allowing us to use this space. And we have other sponsors, like EPB and TVA that are coming in to help us make this thing happen for our students,” Brown said.

The Grand Prix Race will conclude on Saturday with Middle and High School students.

And though the race is a fun competition, Brown believes it’s all about perseverance and hardwork.

“The messages you can do it. If you think about it, you can do it and that is what we want to give them. The opportunity for every student to achieve as much as they can. It all depends on how much they want to dream,” Brown concluded.
