After cheap summer, big jump in gas prices in Chattanooga last week

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee (WDEF) – Is it the end of our cheap gas summer?

Prices jumped 7.8 cents a gallon in the Chattanooga area over the last week, according to the survey.

The national price rose 2.1 cents.

The local average price is back to $2.00 a gallon.

That jump ended our run as the cheapest gas in the region.

Bot Knoxville ($1.99) and Huntsville ($1.98) now have cheaper prices.

“Over the last week, gasoline prices have risen across a majority of the country, following the price of oil which has been rising as of late,” said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for

“OPEC’s meeting this week could steal the focus and propel markets higher or lower, depending on the outcome of the meeting, but for now, the most likely outcome would put pressure on oil prices to rise, especially if there’s talk of another oil production cut from the cartel. Unfortunately, motorists are likely to see gasoline prices continue to rise in more places than prices fall, but it’s not all bad news- gasoline prices nationally continue to hold somewhat near their summer lows, something that wasn’t at all expected earlier this year.”

The days of cheap gas prices in the $1.70s may be gone, but you can still find a bargain here.

Ooltewah has two of the ten best prices in the state.

The BP at $1.83 and the Raceway at $1.85.

We also have two of the cheapest prices in Georgia in our area.

The Costco off Cloud Springs is second cheapest at $1.85.

And 3 prices of $1.89 also made the 10 cheapest.
