Cherokee County deputies investigate suspicious death

MARBLE, North Carolina (WDEF) – Investigators are looking into a suspicious death case in the North Carolina mountains.

Cherokee County deputies were called to a home in Marble around 2AM Monday morning.

A caller called 9-1-1 saying “send an ambulance” and then hung up.

Officers discovered the body of 28 year old Louis Raines from Bryson City at the residence.

He had suffered a head trauma.

Raines was flown to Erlanger Hospital, where he later died.

Sheriff Palmer stated that “Since we are in the early stages of the investigation we are not going to speculate as to what may or may not have happened. We are actively pursuing all leads and appreciate any information anyone may have and ask them to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 828-837-2589.”
