CHI Memorial to offer music therapy

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – CHI Memorial has announced they are offering a new form of therapy.

They have announced that neurologic music therapy will be offered to patients recovering from strokes, Parkinson’s and other trauma.

Medical professionals say by using music and rhythm, patients can relearn lost cognition skills at a quicker rate by helping a damaged brain regain its plasticity.

They hope the new therapy can help patients reach their goals.

Alexandra Rodridguez, the music therapist at CHI Memorial said, “For some people that is being able to walk, being able to perform their activities of daily living, maybe it’s telling a family member I

love you even after they’ve had something traumatic happen to them, whether it’s a stroke, a CVA, or even just a general surgery, we’re here to hold that space for them emotionally but also to help them reach whatever other goals they have.”

Various instruments and vocal techniques are used in the treatment.
