Someone had filed complaints that the home on Old Lafayette Road near Chickamauga had a foul odor and animals running at large. That led Animal Services to conduct a wellness check of the property.

The county said officers found animals in crates and smelled a strong ammonia scent. Walker County Fire Rescue assisted by providing air packs and ventilating the house with fans.

Officers then found six dead animals on the property. They also found several dogs in need of emergency veterinary care, according to the county.

Hamilton County’s Humane Educational Society, Chattanooga’s McKamey Animal Center and Bradley County SPCA are assisting with the animals.
