Chief Fletcher message for Chattanooga police officers following Dallas shooting

Statement from Chattanooga Police Chief Fred Fletcher

Chattanooga Police Family,

I am saddened, frustrated, and angered by the senseless targeted attack on law enforcement that occurred in Dallas last night. This morning our hearts break together at the tremendous and unwarranted sacrifice of our fellow officers in my former home state of Texas.

Like you, I watched the attack in Dallas and saw cowardly criminals who murdered brave police officers serving to protect their community’s very right to protest. I also watch that very same police family suit up again this morning to continue to protect their community just as I see you all do every day. This is who we are as police officers. This is why police officers across our country are heroes, why you are my heroes.

Please know that in the short hours since this event happened I have received messages of support and affection for the Chattanooga Police Department. Our community appreciates your service and sacrifice.
