Child drowns in Rossville, now in critical condition

ROSSVILLE, Georgia (WDEF) – The Walker County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a drowning of a 2 and a half year old boy.

It happened on Gail Street in Rossville on Sunday evening.

Deputies arriving on the scene found adults performing CPR on Ian Tyler Lowrey.

EMS crews rushed the child to Cornerstone Medical Center, in Ft. Oglethorpe.

Emergency room physicians were successful in restoring the child’s heartbeat.

The child was later transferred to Erlanger Children’s Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Investigators say Ian had been in the swimming pool with his grandparents shortly before the drowning happened.

After exiting the pool, it appears the grandparents were distracted and the child climbed into the pool, using the pool ladder.

An older juvenile at the residence found the child floating in the pool.

The incident is being investigated as an accident.
