Child killed, 3 injured in Tennessee apartment fire
ANTIOCH, Tenn. (AP) – One child has died and three family members have been hospitalized after a fire at a Tennessee apartment complex.
Fire officials told WKRN-TV the deceased child was younger than 5 years old and that another child was hospitalized as a precaution after the blaze, which began Monday around 4 a.m. The siblings’ father suffered burns to 80 percent of his body and their mother was burned on her hand.
Nashville Fire Department Captain William Swann says the fire was reported at a ground floor unit and that more than 20 residents were displaced. Swann says that firefighters arrived and had found the father, mother and one child outside with heavy flames shooting from their downstairs apartment.
The American Red Cross was assisting those who’re displaced. A fire investigation is ongoing.
