Chip’s Good Word: Giant Skillet for new Lodge Cast Iron museum

SOUTH PITTSBURG, Tennessee (WDEF) – Lodge Cast Iron is celebrating 125 years in business with a new museum.

The company has been manufacturing cast iron cookery in South Pittsburg since 1986. They will end their year of celebration next summer by opening the Lodge Cast Iron Museum.

The showiest display has already been made… an 18 foot cast iron skillet. The skillet is the world’s largest but it is just one of the features at the new museum.

There will be three interactive experiences.

How It’s Made: a recreation of the foundry experience

The Lodge History & Legacy: how the company survived and thrived through several generations of family ownership.

Cast Iron Culture: cast iron cooking from the campfire to the kitchen. Also the display will team up with Southern Foodways Alliance to focus on Southern cuisine.

“Over the past year, we’ve celebrated 125 years of Lodge Cast Iron, and as we look ahead to 2022 and the next 125 years, we’re thrilled to be bringing the Lodge Cast Iron Museum to South Pittsburg,” said Mike Otterman, CEO and President of Lodge Cast Iron. “Covering everything from the history of cast iron to how it’s used today, the museum is an exciting opportunity to celebrate our community and share Lodge with the world through this unmatched experience.”
