City clarifies planned budget cuts for Artsbuild
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- The city of Chattanooga is clarifying the reason behind a reduction in the allocation for the non-profit Artsbuild in the 2027 Fiscal Year budget.
Artsbuild, who had received $270,000 last year from the city, is receiving $35,000 less this year at $235,000.
Stephanie Cepak, Mayor Tim Kelly’s spokesperson, sent us the following statement:
“This slight reduction is part of the administration’s belt tightening as we continue to deal with ongoing inflationary pressures. Everything from asphalt to steel costs significantly more than it did a few years ago. We identified efficiencies and savings to present a balanced budget to the City Council that properly resources the city services residents deserve – without increasing taxes.
Chattanooga’s creative economy is integral to the city’s unique identity and ArtsBuild tirelessly fosters creativity, innovation, and cultural engagement throughout our community.”
The budget has not yet been approved by the Chattanooga City Council.
