City of Chattanooga Not Planning on Adding More Districts While Redistricting

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF): The Hamilton County Commissioner’s decision to add two more districts to the map has left residents wondering the city’s plan to redistrict.

Chattanooga City Councilwoman, Carol Berz says to not expect any drastic changes.

Every ten years, following a Census from the U.S. government, the city, county and school board are required to redistrict.

Councilwoman Berz says she wants to assure residents the process will be public and peaceful.

“We’re not going to have any new districts. What we’re going to be doing is massaging the districts’ lines that already exist, and right now, we’re in the process of collecting data both from the census and from the districts themselves to see the best way to do that.”

Councilwoman Berz says they will wait until data collection is finished before they begin the process of redistricting.
