Cleveland Cavaliers Sign Former Vol Jordan McRae to Multi-Year Contract

Former Tennessee basketball standout Jordan McRae signed a multi-year contract with the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers Wednesday.
A starter on Tennessee’s 2014 Sweet Sixteen team, McRae was already with the Cavs on a 10-day contract, which was signed on Feb. 28 and was set to expire Wednesday. During that stint, he appeared in three games, totaling 13 points while shooting 50 percent from 3-point range.
At 44-18 this season, Cleveland owns the best record in the Eastern Conference.
McRae was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs with the 58th pick in the 2014 NBA Draft and was quickly acquired by the Philadelphia 76ers via a draft-day trade. After stints in the Australian NBL (Melbourne United) and the NBA D-League (Delaware 87ers), he made his NBA debut earlier this season with the Phoenix Suns. The Suns signed him to consecutive 10-day contracts before he joined the Cavs on a 10-day deal late last month.
As of Wednesday, he had appeared in 10 NBA games this season with the Suns and Cavs, averaging 5.0 points and 1.0 assist per game while shooting .444 from the field, .333 from 3-point range and .778 at the free-throw line.
A native of Midway, Georgia, who ranks 16th on Tennessee’s all-time scoring chart (1,521 points), McRae is the second Vol ever to play for the Cavs. Former UT All-American Reggie Johnson (1976-80) played for Cleveland during the 1981-82 season.
McRae is one of four Tennessee alums currently active on NBA rosters, joining forward Tobias Harris (Detroit Pistons), shooting guard Josh Richardson (Miami Heat) and point guard C.J. Watson (Orlando Magic).
