Cleveland Firefighters “Fill the Boot” for MDA

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (WDEF) – Members of the Cleveland Fire Department and Cleveland Professional Firefighters kicked off their annual Fill the Boot fundraising campaign earlier today.

The campaign helps the Muscular Dystrophy Association find much needed treatments and cures for Muscular Dystrophy, ALS, and other related diseases.

More than 80 firefighters came out to collect donations in their boots at Walmarts on Keith Street and Treasury Drive.

“The citizens here are the best. In this area, whether it be Chattanooga, Cleveland, Athens anytime people need anything they are always with us and willing to help. And for this, this has been… I can remember back when I was growing up giving to the MDA. And these folks are generous to a fault. And those kids really appreciate it.”

Contributions from the campaign also help efforts to raise awareness and provide education about these types of diseases.

This year’s drive will be from August 4th-6th at 10 a.m.
