Cleveland Recognizes National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

CLEVELAND, TN (WDEF) – Friday is national law enforcement appreciation day.

In Cleveland, you’ll see a lot of people decked out in blue.

Mayor Tom Roland says it’s important now more than ever to say two simple words — thank you.

He says officers get paid little and sacrifice a lot.

Mayor Roland believes officers are in danger every second they’re in uniform.

Captain Dennis Maddux with the Cleveland Police Department, says, "We can always try to approach people in a different way and give them a sense of security in our presence. When it comes to actual enforcement of state and federal law, and local ordinances, there has to be some compliance."

Mayor Roland says the city appreciates officers every day through an organization called Cleveland 100.

Members give financial help to the families of fallen officers.
