Coahulla Creek student wins $40,000 scholarship
WHITFIELD COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) – One Whitfield County high schooler made some unexpected cash for her future Monday morning.
Coahulla Creek High School student Alana Lopez was surprised with a $40,000 scholarship by the College Board through their Big Future program.
Every student across the country who uses their Big Future service, which provides various information about the college application process for students, gets entered into a random monthly drawing for scholarship.

Lopez was one of two students across the country to be chosen for this scholarship, which she says will help her pursue a vocal performance degree at Lee University.
Lopez said, “I am so excited, I feel really prepared. I don’t know what to think, I’m literally like “Ah! This is crazy!” … I’ve always been like a big singer, but I’ve gotten into theater and stuff and then I was like, oh my gosh, opera is really good! So, this is what I want to do with my life.”
Any student in 10th through 12th grade can use the Big Future service for free and have their name placed in these drawings.
