Coal Train Derails in Spring City
SPRING CITY, Tenn. (WDEF) – Crews have a long night ahead of them in Spring City Thursday night after a coal train derails.
The Rhea County Sheriff’s Office reports a Norfolk-Southern train derailed in downtown Spring City, right off Highway 27.
Nearly 30 cars filled with coal were involved.
No injuries were reported, but the derailment knocked out power to about 500 homes.
Clean-up is expected to take nearly 36 hours. During that time, lanes will be closed on 27.
