Town of Cohutta discusses destroyed police center

Mayor Ron Shinnick says no immediate timeline for new building

COHUTTA, Georgia (WDEF) — Cohutta leaders are discussing the future of their police department tonight after a large fire destroyed their Police Services Center last month.

Right now, officers are having to operate out of trailers.

Cohutta Mayor Ron Shinnick says the department lost “pretty much everything,” including radios, ammunition, and some firearms.

Shinnick says it could be a while before progress on a new building is made.

“We’re still in the process of gathering information, waiting on the Fire Marshal’s report,” Shinnick said. “It’s going to take a little while to gather all of this information. Unfortunately, it’s not going to be a quick process.”

Shinnick says if anyone in the surrounding community wants to make either material or financial donations, call Cohutta City Hall for more information.
