Cold Weather Car Safety Checks Advised For Motorists Coming To Holiday Season

CHATTANOOGA,TN, (WDEF)-More cars on the roads, plummeting temperatures and hazardous conditions could leave you in a dangerous situation especially if your car is not preppd for icy weather.

Thomas Zobolyak, J.R Shipley Tires, Lee Hwy, "I see a lot of people who have never checked the tires, that is the main problem, they always look kind of surprised when they have some kind of problem they don’t know what happened"

Thomas has worked in the automotive industry in both Europe and the US and says recent buyers of second hand cars and older car owners should get their cars checked out if they haven’t already before going on longer journeys as temperatures are set to drop into the 20’s.

"Take a look at it at least, look under the car make sure the inside and outside is running even, under is kind of tricky, the outside could be good looking, inside is wearing out, every six months i would check my tires."

J.R Shipley tires say they also work with trucks and provide chains if they feel snow or ice is a risk.

"You know bad weather probably be coming this winter, people need to get their air pressure checked, make sure their tires are well fit no wires showing nothing like that" added tire repair expert Dennis McGill.

Other tips include making sure, ice, snow or mud are not clogging up your exhaust pipe before you start driving.
