Colonial Pipeline Searches for Leak in Chattanooga Area

Hamilton Co. (WDEF)  Colonial Pipeline continues to search for a possible leak in the Chattanooga area this morning.

Over the weekend, area first responders worked to contain a gasoline spill along Shoal Creek, near the Tennessee River.

Firefighters described the leak as “small” and say the leak poses no threat to the public or the environment.

Crews have been digging in a rocky, wooded area searching for the leak. Colonial Pipeline technicians will be responsible for repairing the line and cleaning up.

The leak prompted Colonial Pipeline to shut down Line 19, which runs from Chattanooga to Nashville. It’s unclear what impact that will have on gasoline prices in the Nashville area and parts of Middle Tennessee. The Oil Price Information Service notes that will depend on the duration of the regional delivery shutdown.

Chattanooga is served by Line 18, which is not affected by the shutdown.
