Commission considering new vacation rentals resolution

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Vacation rentals are once again a topic of conversation among the Hamilton County Commission.

A proposed ban on them in neighborhoods in unincorporated Hamilton County failed a few weeks ago.

Commissioner Lee Helton has proposed a new resolution that would prohibit vacation rentals on lots of less than one acre in neighborhoods and two acres in agricultural zones in unincorporated Hamilton County.

There were mixed reactions to the proposal.

“I’ve worked with a couple of our other commissioners to find something that is palatable” said Commissioner Helton. “It’s an imperfect solution, but I think it’s something that gives our residents a little bit of elbow room in our communities.”

“This is just another way to kill the short term vacation rental market in this community, and it also tramples on everybody’s property rights that have property less than an acre,” argued Commissioner Joe Graham.

This resolution is due for a vote next Wednesday.
