Community Members Say Farewell to Falling Water Elementary School

Hixson, Tenn (WDEF) – “Goodbye Forever” sits on Falling Water Elementary School’s welcome sign, as a final farewell to the community.

Dozens of parents, former students, and teachers came to watch the elementary school they’ve cherished for generations get torn down in just a matter of days.

“It didn’t feel like a school. It was like a second home, and it’s kinda shocking that they would tear it down,” said former Falling Water student Jade Combs.

Falling Water Elementary School has been around for more than a century, but was scheduled to close for more than a year due to growing expense. “It’s just it’s devastating. It’s like somebody reaching into our body and pulling our hearts out,” said former Falling Water student, and parent, Stephanie Alexander.

According to officials, parents now have the option to transfer their children to the new Ganns Middle Valley Elementary School, but won’t be offered transportation.
