Company confirms 5 dead in missing submarine

UNITED STATES (WDEF) — CBS News reports that the U.S. Coast Guard confirmed the missing OceanGate submarine imploded. OceanGate also announced the five passengers to be deceased.

The Coast Guard said the submarine experienced a “catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber.” Additionally, they confirmed the debris at the ocean floor was part of the vessel.

A Canadian vessel found the tail of the sub about 1,600 feet from the Titanic wreckage, according to CBS News.

Officials identified the five people onboard:

  • Hamish Harding
  • Shahzada Dawood
  • Suleman Dawood
  • Paul-Henri Nargeolet
  • Stockton Rush, OceanGate CEO
