Concrete chunks, other projectiles crash onto cars on I-65

HOOVER, Ala. (AP) – Police are investigating after vehicles were struck by chunks of concrete or other projects in four separate cases on or near Interstate 65 in the Birmingham area.

Al.com reports that all four incidents happened in a two-day span last week in Hoover.

The most recent scare came Friday, when police say a piece of concrete the size of a football struck the hood and then smashed through the windshield of a car as a couple drove south on I-65. Police say the driver was able to stop on the shoulder. Neither occupant was injured.

Hoover police Capt. Gregg Rector said investigators believe there’s a high likelihood that someone is throwing rocks from overpasses, but haven’t ruled out the possibility that someone could be tossing rocks from another moving vehicle.
