Cortney Braswell Excited To Begin First Season as a Head Coach at Central

Chattanooga-(WDEF) Cortney Braswell has been a well traveled high school assistant football coach.
But now he’s ready to settle down this fall, as he takes his first head coaching job at Central.
Cortney Braswell admits he really can’t play it cool taking his first ever head coaching job.
Said Braswell-“It keeps me up at night making sure I’m making the right decisions. I second guess everything. I call every coach I’ve coached with. I guarantee you Damon Floyd and Charles Fant have gotten numerous calls about what do you do in this situation.”
As Braswell worked towards his college degree, he served on many high school staffs as a community coach. And he coached at about every school in the community.
Reporter-“Can you name every school you have coached at in this area?”
Said Braswell-“Yeah, hold on. Let’s do this. OK. 2009 I was at Ringgold. 2010 I was at Soddy Daisy. 2012 I was at East Ridge. I was at Notre Dame in 2013. Then I went to North Murray, Central, Bradley, and then back to Central.”
Reporter-“Woo-hoo!”
Chuckles Braswell-“Yeah. There you go. That’s another thing. You ask me why I went back to Central? Now I don’t have to add another school to my resume. For me, coming back to Central was like coming back home. I had been there before. We had enjoyed some pretty good success when I was there before. So I knew the people. I knew the process. I knew the community.”
Braswell will try to turn around a Central program that was 0-10 last season.
Said Braswell-“People ask me what’s the best part of 0-10. There’s no where to go but up. You can’t be worse than 0-10. People say rebuild the program. I don’t think it’s a rebuild. It’s a retool.”
Defense has been Braswell calling card, so plans to double up at Central as the head coach and defensive coordinator.
Braswell-“I’d miss it too much. I’m so much of a wreck that it would be hard for me to turn it over quite yet to somebody else.”
