Country Music Star Kane Brown teams up with Lowe’s to give back to hometown
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Country music star Kane Brown is teaming up with Lowe’s to help celebrate the company’s 100th birthday.
As part of Lowe’s Birthday Celebration, they announced the launch of their newest project – 100 Hometowns.
“For our hundredth year anniversary we are investing $10 million into 100 community projects all across the country,” said Kevin Stafford, District Manager of Lowe’s.
The singer and Chattanooga native is a former Lowe’s associate, and no stranger to giving back. So it was no surprise that Kane Brown was chosen to help kick off the nationwide community effort.
“To come back to Chattanooga is very humbling,” Brown said. “I already had tears today that I was back. I miss seeing faces. I feel like everybody in this town is what helped me make it.”
Brown and Lowe’s will be making renovations and repairs to help the East Lake Boys & Girls Club continue to be a ‘home away from home’ for local youth.
“We serve about 750 kids at this location,” said James Morgan, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club. “This building was built in the early ’90s, so it wasn’t built for how kids go to school today. So what we are going to be doing is building a new library and computer lab. Then we are going to build a new teen lounge where we do a lot of our college and career success activities.”
“I had it rough as a child, so for me it’s about giving these kids a place to go if their parents are at work, or can’t afford daycare or whatever,” Brown said. “It’s cool for them to come in here and actually have nice things, and not have everything torn apart or go somewhere where you don’t feel clean, safe, or anything.”
Nominations for the 100 hometowns initiative begin Tuesday and run through April 19 at 11:59:59 p.m. ET. Participants should be prepared to share their hometown story, and what their project means to them.
“If you need it, I hope that you get it,” Brown said. “I’m just glad we get to help people.”
