CPD officer placed on administrative leave after striking suspect wielding a gun
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – On Saturday, around 9:40 PM, Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) responded to a possible hostage situation call in the 2200 block of E 27th Street Ct.
According to CPD, the caller reported a suspect on the second floor of an apartment complex who was reportedly armed and claiming to hold a hostage.
They say when the first officers arrived, the male suspect was found, wielding a gun out of a second-story window.
Officers gave multiple clear, verbal commands to exit the residence.
Due to the suspect’s failure to comply, an officer discharged his weapon, striking the suspect.
The suspect received life-saving aid until Hamilton County EMS arrived.
CPD says the suspect did not survive.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave, per CPD policy and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is leading the investigation.
