Crews preparing for potential freezing rain on Thursday night

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- With more potential winter weather moving through the Tennessee Valley, Chattanooga Public Works says they are preparing to treat roads.

Since Sunday morning, crews have sprayed more than 20,000 gallons of brine on more than 600 miles of city streets.

Additionally, they have used sand and salt mixtures to clear roads.

As of today, the vast majority of roads in Chattanooga are cleared, but are preparing for that to change.

The administrator for Chattanooga Public Works, Ross Pitcairn, said, “Our game plan for tonight for this system coming in tonight is basically to have some drivers and trucks on standby and focus on specific calls. We have the areas in higher elevations that our folks will be checking, but we have an emergency crew that is always available also, so we will have several folks on standby ready to respond to any ice that may happen.”

Several roads in northern Hamilton County and points north and west remain either closed or treacherous even before more precipitation moves in.
