Cyber Monday at Amazon Chattanooga
Rena Lunak, Amazon Public Relations,"Today is so special for us it is likely going to be our busiest day of the year, last year Cyber Monday was our busiest day of the year with over 426 items per second."
While the majority of the 38 million plus individual sales are in electronics and toys, this year’s teams are seeing a shift to some more traditional gift options.
"Retro Chic games, those are games, Monopoly and Simon, that are making a comeback, games that I played in the 80’s that are now being revamped to cater a younger audience today, both of those games I mentioned are available for 10.99 today" says Lunak.
The Amazon fulfillment center has also just taken on 2000 seasonal workers to cope with demand over the next month.
Members of the tech community here in Chattanooga say they are very excited about Cyber Monday and it gives them the chance to buy gifts for their loved ones after waiting all year.
Michael Cho, Angry Squirrel Computers,"Like if they are wanting to game and everything, needing a pretty high performance PC with an Intel processor and Core i7 or something."
Some Amazon items are half price or higher and the average amount spent by a Cyber Monday shopper is now more than 350 dollars.
"There are new kinds and better tech coming out each week, each month it keeps getting pricier a lot of programs these days use more codes that need more resources and memory," added Cho.
Cyber Monday has spread across the world since 2005 and shoppers will be buying items with their tablets, phones and computers in Asia, Europe and throughout Central and South America.
Researchers say half of all Cyber Monday shoppers buy their products while at work often using a work computer or phone to make the purchase.
