Dalton Falls 28-26 to Harrison and Star Quarterback Justin Fields on National Television
Dalton High school lost to Harrison 28-26 on Thursday night in a football game nationally televised on ESPN2.
The game attracted network coverage because Harrison features quarterback Justin Fields, who is labeled the
top recruit in the nation.
Fields has verbally committed to Georgia, and Dawgs head coach Kirby Smart was on the sidelines for the game in Kennesaw.
Fields scored on a short TD run to open the game.
Dalton running back Jahmyr Gibbs had two touchdown runs in the first quarter.
It appeared Dalton was going to take a 16-7 lead into halftime, but Fields completed a 35-yard hail mary pass to Tyrese Gibson to end the half, making the score 16-14 at the break.
With Harrison up 28-23 towards the end of the third quarter, Fields injured his right index finger on a tackle, and he did not return to the game.
The dual-threat quarterback still finished with 391 yards of total offense on the evening.
With Dalton still down 28-23 with just over five minutes left in the game, they had a third and three inside the Hoyas five yard line, and they could not convert. The Catamounts were going to go for it on fourth down, but a pre-snap penalty pushed them back. The Catamouts settled for a field goal.
The Dalton defense could not get a stop after that as Harrison ran out the clock to finish the game with a 28-26 victory.
