Dalton holds groundbreaking ceremony for new soccer complex
DALTON, GA (WDEF) — “Soccertown USA” broke ground this afternoon on an impressive new sports complex to back up their game.
It’ll be located east of Park Creek Elementary School in Dalton and feature two turf FIFA Regulation fields.
These new turf fields will be the first of their kind in a city known for its championships.
“Soccer is a big deal in our community,” said Bruce Frazier, Dalton’s communications director. “We have a lot of really great soccer players, we have a winning tradition of soccer here and this is really an investment by the community to say, you know, ‘We see that this is a big deal, we’re going to give you a world-class facility where you can play.”
Frazier says the complex also hopes to attract regional tournaments, as well as local ones.
City officials hope the five-point-two million dollar project will be ready for play by the fall.
