Dalton man convicted of rape and kidnapping of ex-girlfriend
DALTON, Georgia (WDEF) – A jury found a Dalton man guilty of rape, kidnapping and cruelty to children in a family violence case.
His ex-girlfriend and mother of his children accused him of kidnapping and raping her in the spring of 2020.
Prosecutors say she had filed preview domestic abuse complaints against 27 year old Ryan Andrew Contreras.
And they presented other complaints filed by other women.
Contreras was convicted of rape, kidnapping with bodily injury, family violence aggravated assault, family violence battery, and cruelty to children in the third degree.
He faces 21 years to life when he is sentenced a month from now.
The case was prosecuted by Meg Deitz Parker who heads up the Domestic Violence Unit in the District Attorney’s Office.
She says “This case is the story of a brave young woman speaking up about the abuse she suffered.”
“We discovered it wasn’t just her story but the story of two other young women who had been in romantic relationships with Contreras. Our continued investigation gave these women a voice so they could receive justice today and I could not be prouder of these women’s bravery to testify or the work of our Domestic Violence Unit to bring this case to trial.”
