Dalton Public Schools offering support for students after incident Wednesday, investigation continues

DALTON, Georgia (WDEF)- Dalton High School is closed Thursday after teacher fires gun inside school. They began allowing students who left items in the school to retrieve them beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Randal Davidson is facing several charges including aggravated assault, carrying a weapon on school grounds, and terroristic threats.

Police say Davidson locked himself in his classroom and when the Principal tried to confront him, he slammed the door.

That’s when the Principal says he heard a gun shot.

No one was hurt during the incident, but school officials say they want to make sure that the students are emotionally ready to finish the school year.

Steve Bartoo, the principal, says “We have 4 school counselors. We also have, in our school district, a response team that comes in for any sort of a tragedy that might happen at a school or something like this…We will have people like that to be there for the kids.”

It is not clear if Davidson intended to hurt himself or any of the students.

Dalton Police will be on campus when school resumes on Friday.

We are looking into a few encounters with police that the teacher had and why some are calling them red flags.
